Description

Hew Draper was a sixteenth century innkeeper from Bristol, imprisoned in the Tower for attempted sorcery. Having burnt his magic books as part of a failed defense against the charge, he then proceeded to carve detailed occult charts and symbols into the walls of his cell during his imprisonment.

Archival History

This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-1 Red Box Project.
