The fine fifteenth century Baynton Tomb, set against the south wall of the south transept of All Saint's Church in Edington. Although not visible in this photograph, the tomb is colourfully painted and is thought to commemorate a monk called Baynton.

Description

The reverse of the print states that the photograph was taken by J A Bessant, who was a photographer for the National Buildings Record. The bottom-right corner of the reverse is also stamped woth the commercial photograher Cyril Ellis' stamp, meaning that it the print was likely to have been created by that company from Bessant's negative.

Archival History

This photograph was withdrawn from the Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-12 Red Box Project.
