Description

The foundations of the Cathedral Church of St Mary at Salisbury were laid on the 25th of February 1220, and the Cathedral was completed in 1266. The reverse of the card mount has a handwritten note reading 'Call has pic. of this view', which may refer to a similar image by the photographer W A Call.

Archival History

This photograph was withdrawn from the Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-12 Red Box Project. The reverse of this print has a note reading 'See also C.I.B.35/113', which refers to a negative once held in the collection of the Courtauld Institute; however, it is not clear whether it is the negative from which this print was created.
