Description

The Chapter House was redecorated by William Burges in 1855 - 1859. Burges was a noted architect and designer who worked in the gothic revival style, and was a friend of William Morris and the pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. The foundations of the Cathedral Church of St Mary at Salisbury were laid on the 25th of February 1220, and the Cathedral was completed in 1266.

Archival History

This photograph was withdrawn from the Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-12 Red Box Project. One of a number of prints donated to the NBR by donor J L Lovibond on the 12th of August 1942.
