Description

The Royal Military Chapel (also known as the Guards Chapel) was originally built c1838 but was remodelled by George Edmund Street in 1877 - 1879. The chapel was destroyed during an air raid on 18th June 1944 and 121 members of the congregation were killed. It was rebuilt in the 1960s and is now the only remaining Military Chapel in London.

The photographer, Philip E W Street, was the grandson of George Edmund Street. The print was housed in a box labelled 'G E Street buildings', alongside other photographs of sites with connections to the architect.
