Description

The dovecote was built by monks in the nearby monastery to house pigeons, whose eggs were used as a source of food.

Archival History

This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-12 Red Box Project.

The photograph was given to S.P.A.B. by the St Albans D.A.C. in September 1959. It was passed to the NBR via S.P.A.B. in 1959.
