Pull's Ferry was originally a 15th century watergate that was used in the transportation of stone to the cathedral during its construction. The ferry house to the south, now known as 25 The Close, was added in 1647.
The site got its name from John Pull who ran the ferry in the first half of the 19th century and a ferry continued to operate at the site until 1943. In 1948-9 the gateway and house were restored by Cecil Upcher.
