Description

The painted panel is one of 26 illustrations on the rood screen which extends across the church to form part of the chapel reredoses as well. The paintings were restored in the 1960s and 1970s by Pauline Plummer and the dragon, which has faded almost completely in this image, is now visible again.

On the back of the print there is a note in pencil stating: 'see C.I.A35/535' which is probably the Courtauld Institute of Art number for this or a similar image. The back is also stamped 'REPRODUCTION RIGHTS RESERVED BY SYDNEY PITCHER F.R.P.S. COLLEGE COURT, GLOUCESTER'.

The F.P.R.S after his name indicates that he is a Fellow of the Royal Photograph Society. As he was not made a Fellow until 1928 it is likely that the photograph was taken after this date.
