Description

Hugh Despenser, 2nd Baron Despenser (d.1349) was the son and heir of Hugh the younger Despenser who was executed by Queen Isabella and Roger Mortimer in 1326.

On the reverse of the mount is a note stating: 'Tewkesbury Abbey, North side of choir, easternmost bay monument with effigies of Hugh 6th Ld Despenser (who died 1349) and his wife Elizabeth (who died 1359). Late Decorated'.

This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-2012 Red Box Project.
