On the back of the print the room is identified as a library but the furnishings look more consistent with a room used as a living or sitting room.
Rushbrooke Hall was an E-shaped, Tudor moated manor house and over the centuries it was home to the Jermyn, Rushbrooke and Rothschild families. The main body of the house dates from around the 1550s but, in 1735, a number of alterations were made to the house and the north front was re-faced. It was demolished in 1962, having been destroyed in a fire.
This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-2012 Red Box Project.
The photograph was received by the National Buildings Record on 9th July 1942.
