Description

On the mount for this print and OP28039 is the handwritten note: Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey, executed 1546, and wife Lady Frances Vere, daughter of John 15th Earl of Oxford. Monument erected in 1614. by William Cure II?'.

Although Henry Howard was executed in 1547 for treason, his monument was not erected until 1614. It is in the form of a painted alabaster chest tomb, topped with the effigies of the Earl and his wife.

This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-2012 Red Box Project.
