Description

The Bayle Gate was built c1388, around the time that Richard II granted Bridlington Priory a license to crenellate, and became the principal entrance to the priory. The upper part of the gatehouse was partially rebuilt in the mid-17th century.

Archival History

This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-2012 Red Box Project.
