Description

The portico is formed by a Doric pediment, supported by four large fluted columns and decorated with relief carving of a ship. On the front of the entablature is a plaque commemorating the construction of the almshouse in 1834.

The Master Mariners Almshouse was later demolished, having been badly damaged during an air raid in 1941, and the site is now Grovesnor House and Cecil House on Anlaby Street.

On the back of the print is a typed note stating: 'Trinity House Almshouses, Carr Lane, Hull. Doric Portico. destroyed by enemy action 1939-45'.
