St Mary's Church, with the exception of the medieval base of the tower, was built between 1893 and 1898. It was designed by Temple Moore for Sir Tatton Sykes, 5th Baronet and owner of Sledmere House. The new construction replaced an earlier, mid-18th century church; itself a rebuilding of a Norman one.
