Ansley Hall was originally Elizabethan in date but was extensively altered in the late 18th century. By the mid-20th century it had become derelict and it was demolished in the 1970s.
The photograph was taken prior to the painting being sold at auction in Wales in 1986.
This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-2012 Red Box Project.
