Description

The Market Cross was originally built c1502 by William Jacob, a wealthy clothier. While the stepped base is original, the octagonal shaft and finial are 18th century replacements.

On the mount, underneath the image, is the handwritten note: 'Market Place from East [Another photo of The Cross in "Sculpture"]'.
