Description

Although St Leonard's was originally built as a seperate seaside town in the first half of the 19th century, by 1875 the space dividing it from Hastings had been reduced sufficiently for the two settlements to be merged into one.

The archway, which had marked the eastern boundary of St Leonard's, was secretly demolished overnight in 1895 and the site is now marked by a large piece of granite on the roadside.

This is a modern print.

The print is blind stamped Augustin Rischgitz in the lower right corner. He acquired the London Stereoscopic Company in 1922.
