Description

In addition, on the east side of the road, a man is leaning into a horsedrawn carriage.

Noted on the back of the print is 'The Duke of Windsor when Prince of Wales stayed in the mansion for a holiday. He used to go from these houses to the sea for a bath'.

Also noted is 'This is the [unreadable] Old Hove St where the smugglers used to carry their stolen goods through to the Hove Old Parish Church. One Sunday the preachers came to the [unreadable] and found goods in the pulpit'.

The lower left corner of the print is damaged.

Archival History

This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-2012 Red Box Project.

The photograph was received by the National Buildings Record on 3rd November 1948.
