Description

Next to the print, on the mount, is the note 'BB53/1014 shows arch & effigy'.

The burial cists of Gundrada (d 1085) and her husband, William de Warenne (d 1088), were discovered in October 1845 during the construction of the Lewes to Brighton railway line. A chapel was built to the house the remains, often referred to as the Gundrada Chapel.
