Description

The burial cists of Gundrada (d 1085) and her husband, William de Warenne (d 1088), were discovered in October 1845 during the construction of the Lewes to Brighton railway line. A chapel was built to the house the remains, often referred to as the Gundrada Chapel.

Next to the image, on the cutting, is the handwritten note 'Reeves, A. Lewes, photo'.
