Description

Ancesters of George Washington, first President of the United States lived at Washington House in the village of Little Brington, Northamptonshire. In 1899, this sundial is reported to have been discovered in the garden of a cottage belonging to Mr Wykes, close to Washington House. It was later removed to Althorp House.

This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-12 Red Box Project.
