Description

Roesia de Verdun (c.1204 -1247) founded the Augustinian Priory of Grace Dieu near Thringstone in Leicestershire in 1240. At her death in 1247 she was buried in the grounds of the priory, but. her body was moved to Belton Church at the dissolution of the monasteries. This photograph shows her tomb prior to restoration undertaken in 1912.

Archival History

This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-12 Red Box Project.

The original negative is held by University College Leicester (Leicester University).
