Description

Ellistown Colliery began producing coal in 1870s. During the 19th century a brick and pipe works operated by Colonel Joseph Joel Ellis from the same site. It was not until 1936 that the colliery and brickworks split into seperate companies. Railway trucks carrying timber props and coal stand on the railway sidings serving the entrerprise. In the background colliery headgear and mounds of bricks and tiles can be seen.
