Description

Wimbledon Parkouse was built by Henry Holland between 1798 and 1801 for George, the second Earl Spencer (1758-1834). The Earl and his wife lived in the house until the 1820s when it was let out. It was sold by the family in 1856 to John Augustus Beaumont who held it until 1872 when ownership of the house was passed on again. The park was sold for use as a public park in 1914 whilst the house remained in private hands until 1948. The Council were unable to fund the necessary repairs and it was demolished the following year. Park House Middle School was built over the site in 1972.
