Description

The Lower Market was built in the 1830s and was opened in December 1836. It was in use until 4th May 1942, when it was damaged by fire as a result of the bombing of Exeter. The shell of the building stood until 1960.

This photograph was published in an article titled "The Charm of the Country Town. II. - The City of Exeter" by A E Richardson in The Architectural Review in 1920.

The original negative of this print was destroyed.
