Description

A typed description appears on the reverse of Red Box card. It reads as follows: “Military Road. So called because military stores and equipment were loaded from here during the Napoleonic Wars. At the time the photograph was taken it was chiefly used for minor repairs to vessels. Shipwrights had their stores backing onto the cliff. With the building of the Western Approach Road these stores were transferred to the arches, on which the road was built.”
