Description

This impressive timber building dates from the late 17th century. It was home to Abel Fletcher in Dinah Craik's novel 'John Halifax, Gentleman', first published in 1856. Standing opposite the main, north entrance to the Abbey, it is thought to occupy the site of the Abbey hostelry. Houses at the south eastern end of Mill Street are seen beyond to the right.
