Description

This row of houses stands on a raised pavement at the junction of St Mary's Road and Mill Street, facing the Mill Avon just above the Abbey Mill. The raised pavement keeps the houses above the level of river flooding. The white marks on the edge of the raised pavement remain from the 1939-45 war, when they helped to prevent accidents at night in the blackout, there is an unguarded drop of about three feet to St Mary's Road below.
