Description

Built in 1966, to the design of Gloucester architects Stratton, Davis and Yates, these three new almshouses replaced a row of seven, three hundred year old almshouses. In 1651 Mr Edward Richardson had bequeathed £60 to the Corporation for the benefit of economically-disadvantaged people. It provided seven small, one up one down, terraced dwellings and six gardens. The old houses were repaired in 1739 and eventually demolished in 1965. A plaque from the front wall of the old almshouses, commemorating their repair in 1739, has been built into the front elevation of No. 3, it reads: "Thefe houfes purchafed by Ed Richardson Gent in 1651 Repaired by the Stock of ye Publick Charities in 1739"
