Description

The cottage in the foreground is one of a row of three framework knitters' cottages which also includes numbers 28 and 29 out of sight to the right of the photographer. The large, workshop windows at first floor level were provided to allow the maximium light for the domestic framework knitting of stockings, an important part of Tewkesbury's industry at the time the row was built. These cottages date from the mid to late 18th century. Although they were in a state of dereliction in the mid 1960s, they were subsequently restored and are now Grade II Listed.
