Description

The explosion occured on 16th May 1968 and was caused by a leak from a gas stove in flat 90. The resultant damage caused one corner of the block to collapse, killing 4 people and injuring 17 others. It led to a loss of public confidence in the structural integrity of high rise blocks constructed using prefabricated concrete components. The tower was demolished in 1986.
