The stone was originally part of the complex of stone monuments known as the Calderstones and was erected during the Bronze Age. In 1910 it was excavated and moved to a field known as The Stone Hey. The stone was moved to the corner of Archerfield Road and Booker Avenue in 1928. It has been suggested that the deep vertical grooves on the stone were caused by archers sharpening their arrows, hence the name Robin Hood's Stone, or the Robin Hood Stone. The stone is a Scheduled Monument. This photograph was published on page 9 of 'Played in Liverpool' by Ray Physick.
