Description

The building was designed by the architects Hoult and Wise for James Ashcroft. It was completed in 1883 and until 1987 was the headquarters of J Ashcroft & Co, billiards manufacturer. The company's showroom was located on the ground floor. The first and second floors were rented out as office space, with Ashcroft's offices and workshops being located on the third and fourth floors. The flat room was reinforced with concrete and could be used to store up to 400 tons of timber and other manufacturing materials. A photography studio for the firm was located in the corner turret. This photograph was published on page 83 of 'Played in Liverpool' by Ray Physick.
