Description

The street was originally known as 'North Key' (or perhaps North Quay), but was renamed Bath Street after John Naylor Wright opened private baths at the north end of the embankment in the 1750s or 1760s. The baths were taken over by Liverpool Common Council in 1794. They were demolished in 1820 to enable construction of Princes Dock. The entrance gates and wall to which this sign is fixed are Grade II Listed. This photograph was published on page 164 of 'Played in Liverpool' by Ray Physick.
