Description

The National Recreation Centre, later known as the National Sports Centre, was opened in 1964. The athletics stadium was built on the site of the former football ground, where the FA Cup final had been held between 1895 and 1914. The Jubilee Stand was added to the east side of the stadium in 1977. Until 2012, the Grand Prix athletics was held at the National Sports Centre. The 2009 event was part of the World Athletics Tour organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations. This photograph was published on page 68 of 'Played in London' by Simon Inglis.
