A series of one thousand and ten (1310) digital colour photographs showing sports and recreation sites in London. Around thirty of the photographs show locations in Surrey (Epsom Racecourse, Kempton Park Racecourse, and East Molesey), Essex (Copped Hall, Epping) and Hertfordshire (Broxbourne).
All of the photographs were taken by Simon Inglis and around three hundred and fifty (350) were published in his 2014 book, 'Played in London'.
There are a large number of photographs of swimming pools, lidos and public baths (around three hundred (300) photographs) and of sports pavilions and clubhouses (around two hundred and thirty (230) photographs). Cricket grounds and pavilions, grandstands, golf courses and boathouses are also well-documented. Shown less frequently but of interest are sites such as fives courts, archery grounds, skateparks, greyhound stadiums and athletics tracks.
As well as sports sites, the series includes photographs of statues, memorials, plaques, gravestones, sculptures and public art relating to sport and sporting figures.
