Description

Uxbridge Lido was opened in 1935. It was designed in a Moderne style by George Percy Trentham. The central section of the pool is deeper and wider to accommodate diving and water polo, which could be viewed from the rooftop viewing area of the grandstand to the east of the pool. The pool was closed permanently in 1988. It was part of a £31 million redevelopment which saw it become the Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex, opened in March 2010. The new complex was designed by Faulkner Brown and, alongside the original lido, included a sports hall and indoor 25m pool. The lido and original buildings are listed Grade II, and is the second longest open air swimming pool in London at 220 foot long (the longest, Tooting Bec Lido, measures 300 foot).
