Description

A tennis section was added to the Beckenham Cricket Club (founded in 1866) in the 1870s or 1880s. The club, later known as Beckenham Cricket and Tennis Club or Beckenham Sports Club, is one of the oldest tennis clubs to remain in its original location. The pavilion was built in around 1896 to provide facilities for women. It is one of only a few intact examples of a bungalow-with-verandah style pavilion from the early days of tennis. Refurbishment began in 1998 and the renamed Summer Pavilion reopened in June 2003. It is Grade II Listed.
