The course at Stanmore was laid down by Frederick Gordon for use by friends and by guests of his hotel at Bentley Priory. The club was officially formed in 1893 and consisted of lawns, tennis courts and clubhouse known as The Pavilion. In the 1930s, Middlesex County Council purchased the course and leased it back to the club.
