The swimming baths and wash house was built in 1907 and were incorporated into the sheltering perimeter block of the 1970s redevelopment of the Byker Estate. The baths closed in around 2000 and were reopened in 2008 after conversion into an indoor climbing centre known as 'Climb Newcastle at The Pool'.
