Description

A series of one hundred and three (103) digital colour photographs showing sports and recreation sites in Tyne and Wear.

All of the photographs were taken by Simon Inglis, and forty-two (42) of these were published in 'Played in Tyne and Wear' (2010) by Lynn Pearson.

The sites photographed include bowling clubs, grandstands, stadiums, football and rugby grounds, and greyhound stadiums.

Of particular interest are 17 photographs showing the Stadium of Light in Sunderland and the surrounding public art; 16 photographs of the Jesmond Dene Real Tennis Club in Newcastle-upon-Tyne; and 20 photographs of St James' Park football stadium in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. A photograph of a historic bullring, excavated in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1821, is also included.
