The bowling green is thought to be the oldest surviving pub green in London, and has been in use since around 1805, or perhaps since the Sun Inn opened in around 1775. It is the only green in London which does not conform to the requirements of flat green bowls established in 1903, and the club plays by 18th century rules rather than the standard crown green bowls. This photograph was published on page 103 of 'Bowled Over: The bowling greens of Britain' by Hugh Hornby.
