Description

Although the sign describes it as being the oldest bowling green in the world (established circa 1299), the Southampton (Old) Bowling Green more likely dates from around 1600 as "God's House Green", named for the nearby God's House hospital. The green is, however, home to what is probably the oldest bowls competition in the world: the annual Knights Competition, or The Knighthood.
