Description

Marylebone Baths were built in three stages between 1849 and 1896. The building was converted into a dispensary, clinic and library in 1938 and was used as a Red Cross hospital during the Second World War. In the 1960s it became the Marylebone Police Court, later Westminster Magistrates' Court. The buildings were demolished and replaced in around 2009. The painted tilework in the former ladies pool was by W B Simpson & Son of St Martin's Lane. This photograph was published on page 266 of 'Great Lengths: The historic indoor swimming pools of Britain' by Dr Ian Gordon and Simon Inglis.
