York Hall opened in 1929 and was built for the London Borough of Bethnal Green to the designs of AE Darby, Borough Engineer. The complex housed a swimming pool, bath house and laundry. The main or gala pool could be boarded over in winter. In around 1950, the pool was permanently boarded and the hall was used for amateur boxing. The building was refurbished in 2005-2010, and in 2013 it was listed at Grade II.
