Description

New Zealand, or Aotearoa as it is called by the Maori, was colonized by Britain in 1840, when the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between Maori chiefs and British representatives. The country became a Dominion in 1907, and became fully independent from British Parliament in 1947. In 1986 with the passing of the Constitution Act, New Zealand became a sovereign state.
