Description

Westminster Hall dates to 1097-99, and was remodelled between 1394-1401 by Henry Yevele and the carpenter Hugh Herland. It was during this remodelling that the hammerbeam roof was built. The image shows huge jutting carved figure of angels, each with a shield crest underneath them. They reach out into the room, and are attached at the apex of a triangular buttress towards the bottom of the roof shafts.
