Description

The building was constructed c1837 by John Wardle for Richard Grainger, and was originally houses and shops. It is of sandstone ashlar and has four storeys and five bays, with shop front on the ground floor and a gaint order of fluted ionic columns over the first and second floors. The top floor has short square pilasters between each bay and the central bay was previously blind. In front of the shope is a row of parked contemporary cars and shoppers in the background, with a partial view of the south-western corner of the Exchange Buildings, which has a round five bay end with lead-covered domes.
