Description

The version of the Redheugh Bridge in the image was the second construction, started in 1897 and completed in 1901 after the former bridge was declared unsound. This was replaced in the early 1980's when the second version was also found to be unsound. The second installment of the bridge had three metal river piers which supported four trusses that spanned the River Tyne, and connected to large stone piers on the banks. The northern end of the Redheugh Bridge is shown.
