Description

The collection contains 234 black and white negatives.

All bar one are oblique aerial images of towns and industrial sites taken from an aircraft. The negatives are 5 inch x 4 inch glass plates and they are undated. They were probably taken in the 1920’s-1940s when we know the photographer Arthur William Hobart was active.

Within the AWH01/01 collection are 233 oblique aerial views of which 201 have been identified as sites in England and catalogued, 13 have been identified as being of Wales, 6 of Scotland and 13 remain unidentified. There is also one ground shot photo which depicts Mr Gordon Selfridge, Captain Gathergood and Captain Saint in an AirCo plane

Archival History

The collection was acquired by the Historic England Archive in 2023.
